October 15-17 Manitoba Kendo Club annual seminar. Led by Murao sensei 7th dan (Steveston Kendo Club), former team Canada member and coach, Takagaki Sensei (Steveston Kendo Club), Gendzwill Sensei (Saskatoon Kendo Club) and Yamashita Sensei (Manitoba Kendo Club). An excellent weekend of friends, fun and kendo with training centring around basics and shiai drills.
September -Michiyama Sensei of Nagoya Japan returns to the Manitoba Kendo Club to practice kendo and reacquaint with friends.
July/August -Students from Kokugakuin University (Tokyo) join the Manitoba Kendo Club for 4 weeks of joint training. Special thanks to Okuban sensei for leading practices.
May -Manitoba Kendo Club attends Steveston (Richmond B.C.) Invitational Taikai with its strongest performance to date. After 6 weeks of extra training (in addition to regular practices) 3 senshu, Westhead, Gabac and Gabac advance respectfully in the tournament.
March -Yamashita Sensei and Westhead Sensei attend the FIK America zone referee seminar in Coquitlam B.C. This seminar is also held in the European zone and the Asian zone. Lead by Kakehashi sensei Hanshi 8 Dan, Asano sensei Hanshi 8 Dan and Yamanaka sensei Hanshi 8 Dan attendees enjoyed a detailed seminar and godo keiko which focused on the shimpan’s role during shiai.
March -Manitoba Kendo Club sends a record 19 members to participate in the annual Saskatoon seminar, taikai and grading. MKC members enjoyed a successful grading and tournament with newer members experiencing their first prairie tournament. Thank you to the host dojo, Saskatoon Kendo Club.
